He was one of the richest men in Fawcett City. Using weapons of his own creation, Sivana has tried many times to defeat Captain Marvel, the defender of Fawcett City, it's even his life pursuit. However, Captain Marvel destroyed Sivana's business empire and research facility rendering him resourceless and bitter.

Doctor Thaddeus Bodog Sivana is a stereotypical "mad scientist", a super genius who often battles Shazam , the adolescent champion of magic. He has been a member of two criminal organizations, the Secret Society of Super-Villains and the less successful League of Villainy. Thaddeus Sivana was one of the World's leading scientific minds, however he turned to magic when science failed to help his dying family. Thaddeus researched the myths of old, hoping to find a way to save his family. Eventually he came across the legend of Black Adam , a slave who walked into a cell door and found himself in the Rock of Eternity , a fortress which housed the leading wizards and witches of the ancient times. The sorcerers chose Black Adam to be their champion, however Adam vanished after saving his nation of Kahndaq from the Seven Deadly Sins.

Sivana has kept his role as one of the key archenemies of Captain Marvel, now also known as Shazam, through to the character's appearances in DC Comics, which eventually acquired the rights to Fawcett's superhero characters. Infamously evil, Doctor Sivana appeared in well over half of all of the Golden Age Captain Marvel comic stories, and in all of the first four stories, after having deduced Captain Marvel's dual identity as boy radio broadcaster Billy Batson early on. Depicted as a brilliant, if evil, scientist, Sivana used all manner of unusual inventions and techniques against the Marvels. He was at first a good man who wanted to help humanity, but big business, bosses and other concerns blocked and checked him and even called him mad, until, embittered, he turned against humanity and moved to Venus.
